This exhibition springs from love! Breathe Life Arts and Culture is please to present “In the Mood for Love”, a group exhibition of 10 contemporary female artists of different media, exploring love in its myriad forms and depicting love in its many manifestations. This exhibition is divided into two parts. Part one of the exhibition will showcase paintings, ink works and photography by seven female artists, being held at the Hong Kong Visual Art Centre from 3 – 7 December, 2015. The second part of the exhibition will be held at New Gallery on Old Bailey from 10 December, 2015 – 8 January, 2016. Three additional female artists will be joining the later part of the exhibition with paintings and ceramics.

Planned its first cultural seed in 2011, Breathe Life Arts and Culture continues to bring social awareness of environment issues throughout Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. “In the Mood for Love” marks the fifth exhibition of Breathe Life Arts and Culture, and will continue to spread the message at a deeper spiritual level. The purification of our minds and hearts is as important as the purification of the environment. If our minds are free from desires and not polluted by the surroundings, and we put more effort in cultivating love and compassion in lives, our living environment and spiritual environment will be much better places.

Part one of the exhibition at the Hong Kong Visual Art Centre will showcase works by seven artists including Ada Chan, Candy Chan, Mable Lam, Mini Choi, Susan Yeung and Vivian Wong from Hong Kong, and Nguyen de Quyen from Vietnam. Susan Yeung, among the artists of oil paintings, will exhibit a series of bold colors abstract paintings. Her works are characterized by movement and strong colors. Her powerful, free and thick impasto brushstrokes overlapped and intermingled, adding visual rhythms to her works with striking textures. Her abstract works are free from any forms. “Simplicity is the key to the core of happiness. Let go and drift with the flow of life. It will lead your heart to fulfillment.”

Among the paintings on view will be Mini Choi’s recent series “Girls Talk”. Mini Choi is a multi-media artist, lyricist, author, columnist, anchor and gallerist. The five acrylic paintings depicted five glamorous beauty icons from different generations and spectrums. Her creative process of female portraits began when the artist used a brush to paint the foundation onto her skin. Her works explored the relationship between feminine narratives in pop culture and personal experiences, inviting viewers to question gender equality and body images in today’s feminist issues.

Nguyen de Quyen
